Manders Again!

Exactly one month to the date since his last feature win, Kaiden Manders has done it again at the Perth Motorplex, winning the Keith ‘Super’ Mann feature race and putting himself in the best possible position ahead of next weekend’s WA Title.

Manders was all class throughout the night, recording a win and a second place in the heats to start from pole position in the twenty-lap feature alongside Tom Payet who recorded a win and a third place in his heats.

As the race went green it was Nicholas Rowe who jumped from position three straight into the lead as behind him Payet and Manders battled side by side for second while a gaggle of cars fought for position behind them.

Manders got by Payet on lap two and Payet went to get back under him in turn two, but they made contact, Payet losing some ground.

Tyson Bryden was running in fourth and took the opportunity to have a sniff at Payet, but shortly after the top four found themselves running line astern, no one quite able to make a move.

With five laps complete Manders switched lines, moving high and it paid off immediately, shooting around the outside of Rowe to lead lap six by 0.018 seconds.

Manders immediately dropped back low in front of Rowe, with Payet then moving high to try the same trick, but it didn’t work to his advantage immediately, unable to get by Rowe. He persisted with the highline for a number of laps but would begin to drop back down the track at around half race distance.

All the while, Manders was increasing his lead up front, moving into lapped traffic on the fourteenth circulation.

Shortly after, Payet was again on Rowe’s tail, but then made a small mistake coming out of two and it was enough to give Rowe the gap back.

Again, Payet closed on Rowe and on lap seventeen Rowe went high through turn one, Payet taking the opportunity to go low, the duo then swapping places through turns three and four and Payet finally able to steal the position from Rowe.

By now though, Manders had three lapped cars between himself and Payet and it was too much of a gap for Payet to peg back, Manders going on to claim the win from Payet and Rowe. The win was Manders eighteenth at the Perth Motorplex venue.

Dan Golding and Glen Mears had both got by Tyson Bryden to round out the top five finishers.

Speedcars now have a very short turnaround before the big one, the WA Speedcar Championship, to be held next weekend at the Perth Motorplex!
