The biggest shows of the season are fast approaching for Speedcars in Western Australia and this weekend marks the last chance for competitors to dial themselves and their machinery in before the expected visiting driver deluge hits!
With the Mobil 1 82nd Annual Australian Speedcar Championship now less than a month away, it is great to see an eighteen-car field ready for this weekend at the Perth Motorplex.
Coming into the show the name on everyone’s lips is Kaiden Manders.
This season aboard the Dan Golding Racing #71, Manders has won five feature races at the Motorplex alone, including dominating the Esslinger Engineering Speedcar Triple Crown recently which netted the team some impressive prize money.
With their focus now firmly on the Australian Championship, Manders will be determined to iron out any final bugs this weekend, not to mention with thirty-one career Motorplex feature wins, he is closing in on the front running all-time record holders.
Of course, The Pool Shop Group Perth Motorplex Track Championship leader Tom Payet has the same laser focus as Manders and although he has only visited victory lane once so far this season, will be another strong contender come feature race time.
No other drivers in the field this weekend have won a feature race this season, but that could well change if a little bit of luck goes their way.
Cody Nash aboard the Redmond Racing #52 has three podium results in season 2023/24, Keenan Fleming in the Asteel #26 has two and Patrick Watson (Watson Racing #76) and Daniel Harding (in the second Golding Motorsports #71) each have one, so the speed is certainly there and this weekend could well mark the breakthrough that they need.
Nicholas Rowe is another who has shown some great speed across the season, as has rookie Jake Robinson, long time racer Glen Mears and Tyson Bryden, so this quartet of drivers could also be well worth keeping an eye on.
After some time out of the seat due to engine issues we also welcome back Aron Sharp to the Speedcar ranks this weekend, while we also embrace the debut of William Douglas this weekend.
The go karter has been spending plenty of time getting himself ready to make his first appearance and the time has finally come as he hits the track for the first time this weekend aboard the ex Brady Bacon Australia #1 car.
We have all we need to put on a massive show, so make sure you are at the Motorplex this weekend to be part of it.
