The minute the curtain came down on season 2016/17, the planning in earnest began for the new season and today the West Australian Speedcar Drivers Association (WASDA) are proud to release the 2017/18 season calendar for Speedcars in WA. There are thirteen nights of action scheduled for the season at five tracks across our fine state, with some massive events scheduled that are sure to blow the socks off race fans new and old alike. Season 2017/18 will officially kick off at Narrogin Speedway on Saturday the 21st of October for the second Midget Madness event. This will also be the opening round of the Speedcar Grand Prix Series; double points on offer for the series as an added incentive for drivers to get their machines ready in time. For the first of eight occasions this season, WASDA will the following week be competing at the Perth Motorplex. As the home of Speedcars in WA for the last seventeen years, the Motorplex will kick off with Powerpalooza #1 on the 28th of October and Speedcars are excited to be returning to the nation’s number one venue once again. The Motorplex will host Speedcars again on the 4th of November, then the week after we head down to QUIT Collie Speedway for Round Two of the Speedcar Grand Prix Series. After a few weeks break the season kicks into high gear as we return to the Perth Motorplex for the John Day Speedcar Classic on Saturday the 9th of December, a new event formed to honour ‘The General’ and with a $30,000 prize purse it is sure to be huge. This will be backed up for the second year in a row with the two night USA vs WA Southwest Challenge: Friday the 15th December at Manjimup Speedway and Saturday the 16th December at Manjimup Speedway. With a number of international and interstate drivers already showing an interest in competing in WA over this period it is sure to be a massive time for Speedcar racing in the West. These two shows at Manjimup and Margaret River will also be Rounds Three and Four of the Speedcar Grand Prix Series respectively, so it is going to be important for all drivers to put their best foot forward with every race. Ten days later Speedcars return to the Motorplex for the Christmas Cup (on Boxing Day, which is a Tuesday!), before returning to the same venue and welcoming in the New Year on Sunday the 14th of January, with the 47th Annual running of the New Year Speedcar Derby. After about a month’s break from racing in WA to allow drivers to race at the Australian Speedcar Championships in Murray Bridge, South Australia, drivers will once again return to the Perth Motorplex on the 24th of February for the final round of the Speedcar Grand Prix Series. This will be the perfect prelude to the big ones, first of all the 30th Annual Laurie Matthews Memorial to be held at QUIT Collie Speedway on the 10th of March, then a week later the 70th Annual WA Speedcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex. Putting these two blue ribbon events together will hopefully once again attract some visiting drivers, increase the level of competition even more and give these prestigious events some real spice and spark. Season 2017/18 will then all come to a close with Powerpalooza II at the Perth Motorplex on the 7th of April. It is sure to be a huge season once again for WASDA and we look forward to all our teams, crews and families supporting us to entertain each and every one of our valued fans! See you trackside!
