Round 2 Predictions: Experts' Picks For The Conference Semifinals

Beginning in 1988 and previously called the "Wild West Series", WASDA began running a series in Regional WA vesting tracks such as Bunbury, Collie, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Manjimup, Margaret River, Moora and Narrogin to name a few.

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, the WASDA Committee relaunched the country series as the "Speedcar Grand Prix Series", with the aim of taking Speedcar racing to the next level. This series follows the same format as the highly successful national Speedcar Pro Series run by Speedway Australia.

This new era of a new exciting racing format hopes to bring back the crowds to see the “Ultimate Wheel to Wheel Racing” that only the mighty midgets can deliver. The Sheehan Haulage Speedcar Grand Prix Series will test driver and crew as they visit different tracks, learning to quickly adapt to changing racing surface to get the best points haul, and start the all-important Feature Race in the best possible position.

The Format is as follows.
  1. Hot laps where drivers test their car set-up are run then teams are able to make changes to their machines
  2. The cars return to the track for 2 timed laps
  3. Highest points are given to the driver with the quickest time. This driver will start at the rear of their 2 heat races and have to work to the front to build points.
  4. The top seven then go through a series of knock-out races, the “Super Seven Sprint” to determines the pole car for the feature race. After 2 laps the last 2 cars drop out, another 2 laps then another 2 cars drop out. The final 3 cars will then battle for another 2 laps, with the finishing positions being their starting positions in the feature race.
Exceptions:

As a twist to the regular format one selected round will have the highest point scorer start from the rear of the Feature Race. The driver will then choos the driver to start alongside, and that driver then chooses the next and so on till we get to the front row. This exciting new innovation sees the “Gun” drivers fight through traffic over 40 laps to really earn a victory.
